Hp 9420 Drivers Windows 7

I've installed public beta (build 7000) x64 on my trusty old laptop, on a spare disk. I usually run Vista Enterprise SP1 x64 on the main hard drive. It's worked like a charm, and since I've read about Windows 7 having the same drivers as Vista, I didn't think I'd experience any problems, driver-wise. I was therefore stumped to see the Experience Index score a low 2,0 due to a slow hard disk!

Hp 9420 Drivers Windows 7

On Vista this same computer scores 5,2 - although that HD is a 7200 rpm drive and some what faster, 2,0 seemed extremely low. So I went to invesigate in Device Manager, and found two unknown devices; 'Mass Storage Controller' and 'PCI Simple Communications Controller'. So I suspect that the missing driver is the former - but searching Windows Update results in nothing. Also I scoured the hp.com support pages to find Vista drivers for this, but no avail. Is there something I'm missing? Why does this problem surface on Win7 and not on Vista?

Thanks in advance! Keep in mind the disk scores have been refactored for SSD technology and the W7 scores are much 'lower' for normal hard drives compared to Vista. I'm hoping post-7000 builds aren't so punishing on normal hard drives because people instantly assume their disk subsystem has something wrong with it.

Take WEI scores with a grain of salt - run actual HD benchmark programs to determine if your subsystem is running the way it is supposed to. - - If you find my post helpful, please click on the 'Post was helpful' option inside my post.

Hi, thanks for the reply! I didn't think of checking the ID's, but here they are: 'Mass Storage Controller': PCI VEN_104C&DEV_803B&SUBSYS_309F103C&REV_00 'PCI Simple Communication Controller': PCI VEN_104C&DEV_803D&SUBSYS_309F103C&REV_00.so they're looking pretty close, and googling them says they have to do with the built in SmartCard reader. That makes me think they don't have anything to do with the hard drive being slow.?

So delving in a bit further, looking at IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers in Device Manager, I can see that the SATA controller is a 'Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller'. Searching online says this is the best controller for the device. Could 2,0 be the best I get from that drive on WEI for Windows 7? Regards, Thomas.

It depends on how they interface with the rest of the stuff on the mobo. If they're spitting out info continuously, they may be slowing down other connections on the mobo. I'd suggest installing the Vista drivers from the HP support website for these devices in compatibility mode as 'Run as Windows Vista' and 'Run as Administrator. FYI - here's the info that I found on VEN_104C (Texas Instruments): 0x803D Chip Number: N/A Chip Description: Texas Instruments PCI GemCore based SmartCard controller Notes: found on HP nc6400, nx9420, nw9440, nc8430, nw8440 0x803B Chip Number: PCIxx12 VEN_104C&DEV_803B&SUBSYS_0753152D&REV_00 4 Chip Description: Integrated Flash Media Controller Notes: Xp and Vista 32 and 64 bit-------ftp://esupport:vImvF88@ftp.gateway.com - John. I had very similiar results on my Thinkpad T500 - installing the AMT drivers fixed the PCI Simple Communication Controller problem (although obviously made by Intel instead of TI) and ditto for the SmartCard/4-in-1 reader which showed up as an unknown Mass Storage Controller. It was a matter of locating the (in my case) Ricoh drivers from Lenovo's site and installing the Vista drivers. Even updating the drivers for these will most likely not affect your WEI scores overall.

I'd use AHCI Intel Matrix drivers if you can instead of the Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller drivers. They tend to boost transfer rates on Intel chipset based laptops. Little by little though, I've noticed less and less of a performance difference between the Standard AHCI driver and the Intel driver as time goes on.

I suspect the native AHCI driver is getting better at NCQ support and other optimizations.:) Crack Edt Monoposte 2011 Calendar. - - If you find my post helpful, please click on the 'Post was helpful' option inside my post. Thanks for your info! I'll want to run an HD benchmarking tool, just to see how it fares. I can't say that it's definitely running slow, but I'm not impressed with the speed.

Can you recommend any particular tool for benchmarking? Took me a bit, but after looking at one of Mr. Tiensivu's posts I figured it out on my NW9440. Very interesting. Downloaded the Vista 32 bit driver for the 'Texas Instruments Media Card Driver' under the 'Storage' category from HP's website: Used For some reason that driver is not available if you select the Vista 64 bit section.

I used 7-Zip to extract the files from the exe I downloaded and found a director 'tiinst' that had a folder for Vista 64, in fact, and that folder had my drivers in it! Yay.:) -Zack.
