The 1st edition of AFI was published in the year 1978. Earlier there was no standardisation work done in the field of Ayurveda formulation, drug manufacturing and pharmacopoeia. This was a unique attempt by Government of India to compile the scattered information on various formulations in classical Ayurvedic books.
