Diamond Caves 3 Serial Number
Hi everyone Found this site and have gone through hoping someone had about the same serial number but not to be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have a s&w 38special model 15-3 that's been in the family about 30 years. Six shot swing out cylinder, double action, exposed hammer. Adjustable rear sites elevation and windage, typical cylinder release, Walnut?grips, no diamond pattern around screw,s&w logo, deep cut diamond shaped grooves. Solidworks 2012 Student Serial Killers there. Right side large s&w trademark symbol in front of grips 2screws on frame, made in USA, registradas, smith & season Springfield mass, Serial number on bottom of frame, under grips 6k37xx number on swing out arm that holds cylinder 48861 second 8 sits lower than the other numbers.
Any ideas to it's age and is +p alright to shoot through it. Thanks for any help, Bill. LeftHandShooter, Need a little bit more info to give guesstimate of value.
A Pic would be great. Without, my guess is that it is a 5 shot Top break, either a 38 Double Action 3rd Model (with a Hammer) manufactured between 1884-1895 ( a true antique, no registration required, no FFL) or a 38 Safety Hammerless 4th Model (Lemon squeezer with no hammer) manufactured between 1898 and 1907; best SWAG, 1902, not an antique. South Paw, give me more info and I'll try to value, somewhere between $75.00 and $500.00. Guessing it is not in primo condition as it is hard to open. Good Luck- Phil.

Orlando122085, First of all, a BIG WELCOME to G&G, stick around and join in, there are some great people here. You will enjoy the camaraderie! Secondly, you must be one of the young ones, A Smith and Wesson K frame isn't even close to OLD until it is at least 50 years old, somewhere around the early 60's. Your 31 year old revolver is barely of age. Third, what is the description of your revolver? A pic would help greatly.
What caliber? What barrel length? Blue, nickle or stainless? What grips (stocks)? Orlando, your six shooter was probably manufactured in 1980 and the SN is '79K2xxx', which should be on the butt of the firearm. Send more info and we will tell you more. On the west coast, one in poor condition will fetch about $75-100, Fair condition about $125-175 and good condition $175-250. Sounds like yours is in poor to fair condition. Junk will always be junk, any real value, now and in the future would be in a firearm in good or better condition. Good luck to you-Phil. You said a six inch barrel, unless a custom order, it would be a model 14-4 K-38 Target Masterpiece with pinned barrel (the pin for the barrel went away in 1982). The Combat Masterpiece K-38 Model 15 did not use a six inch barrel until 1986. Do you have Standard or Target grips; trigger or hammer? You have a great firearm with a super trigger.
These Target Masterpieces were the de rigueur competitive weapon in the day. Definitely send a picture.
